I'm not stressing about it. However, I am insulted on behalf of my non-Catholic publisher and the non-Catholic contributors to this anthology. Like you, they have been wrongly judged.

I'm very sorry you've had such a rough time of it--it's amazing how people make assumptions.

The nice thing is that there are a lot of independent presses and a few Catholic ones that are now looking at Christian and Catholic-Christian fiction, and are not restricted by CBA/ECPA guidelines.

Please don't let the attacks by ignorant reviewers discourage you! If you haven't checked out the Catholic Writers Guild (www.catholicwritersguild.org) or the Catholic Writers Conferences (www.catholicwritersconference.com), please do so. You'll find a lot of support for your writing.Karina Fabianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06937791512486438983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25667786.post-42907555164437905452008-11-06T17:59:00.000-07:002008-11-06T17:59:00.000-07:00I hear you, sis. My love for the Church was pretty obvious in the the last few books I wrote prior to my conversion, and I got the same reactions from reviewers. I was not yet Catholic, but reviewers suggested, "No one but Franciscans or Benedictines will like this book," and "I can't recommend this to people who are confused about Christ worship vs. Mary worship." I was so astounded by the not so subtle attacks on Catholic theology, that honestly, I've lost all desire to write "Christian fiction." Since all my novels are of this genre, I don't know what is next for me. I only know that writers I love, the Flannery O'Connors and Graham Greenes--and so many others--could infuse spirituality (for better or worse) into their writing, and their work succeeded in the big scary world, and not in the often insular world of Evangelical Christian fiction.

I also came to realize so much in these reviews is rooted in fear, and a general lack of insight into the teachings of the Catholic Church. A pity, but it's real.

The truth is, and I truly believe this, we know where God is, but what we don't know, is where He isn't. It's awfully ignorant to imply that in our limited knowledge we have insight on all there is to know about God. It's a scary posture to take, this, "I have God and you don't" thing. I'm guilty of it. Now, I'm just a humble pilgrim, with hope. I'm trying to lose the arrogance.

Try not to take it these reviews to heart. They're just opinions. Everybody's got one, and the fact is, some people just aren't going to get what you're doing.

peace!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
