It's MuseCon Time Again

I'm at the MuseOnline conference this week.  Here's a happy song for you!

Chorus:
Getting carpal tunnel at the con
Online, you can sign along
Wearing pajamas all day long
It’s MuseCon time again

When October comes in sight
My husband gets an awful fright
To see those dates blocked out day and night
It’s MuseCon time again

Chorus

The ‘fridgerator’s full of food
In packages with colors rude
Cooking instructions sparse and rude
It’s MuseCon time again

Chorus

Mid-week, laundry’s piled up high
The kitchen counters make you sigh
The kids know not to reason why
It’s MuseCon time again!

Chorus

Got bloodshot eyes and I’m not dressed
Not yet showered; house a mess
And don’t even ask me about the—HEY!
It’s MuseCon time again.

Chorus

When it’s done, we’re feeling free
And like we just earned our degree
Things’ll get normal now, you’ll see
…at least until NaNo…
And when it’s MuseCon time again!

The Ending

I'm just getting home from a great vacation with Rob and the kids, so today, I present you with a song parody for writers!

Sung to Tomorrow, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PzL8aL6jtI

I'm thinking about the ending
'cause you know I'm almost to the ending
And it's such fun
All the plot twists and bendings
I'm resolving now to reach the ending
What a great run!
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 10K away

I'm working on the ending
Through  the long path that I've been wending
There's the sun!
I'm dreaming about the ending
Will it be funny or heart-rending
Or both in one?
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 5 K away

I'm almost to the ending
The characters their good-byes now are sending
To everyone
And when I've reached  the ending
A victory I'll feel here with the ending
Oh, yes,  I've won!
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 1 K away

I've written those words, "THE END"ing
Can't believe I've come now to the ending!
At last it's done.
Except for critiques
     And editing
           And rounds of submissions
                   And rejecting
And new books to come!
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 80K away!

(big finish)
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're always a book away!

You Should Be Writing

I'm taking June off to go to Virginia and Disneyworld with the family before Rob deploys, so today, I present you with a song parody for writers!

My novel moves at midnight
Goes right until the dawn
My hero takes me higher
My villain keeps me warm

What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
You should be writing, yeah
Writing, yeah

It’s juicy when there’s trouble
I give it to them good
That creative power
Goes right down to my blood

What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
You should be writing, yeah
Writing, yeah

What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
You should be writing, yeah
Writing, yeah

(Keyboard instrumental here—clacka clacka clack)

My novel moves at midnight
Goes right until the dawn
My hero takes me higher
My villain keeps me warm

What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh
You should be writing, yeah
Writing, yeah
(Repeat—since lyrics don’t have to keep progressing like narrative)

(Keyboard instrumental here—clacka clacka clack)
What you doin’ on your plot?  Ahhh.  (Repeat 11 times…or better yet, get off YouTube and write!)

99 Reddened Lines

I'm taking June off to go to Virginia and Disneyworld with the family before Rob deploys, so today, I present you with a song parody for writers!

To 99 Red Balloons, http://youtu.be/FG-3LeJvfzU

Sitting at my writers desk
I send my story; it was my best
Said a prayer one last time
Then I get a glass of wine…

When I get back, email soft ware
Flashes the message, something’s got here.
Grab your pen and stand by
99 Reddened Lines go by

Pen solo—scratch scratch
Keyboard and mouse join in

99 reddened lines
Tearing up my manuscript
Panic bells--it’s red alert
This editing is gonna hurt
The printer now has sprung to life
Kiss the color cartridge bye
Trying so hard not to cry
As 99 reddened lines go by

Printer solo, punctuated by gasps and “noooo!” “What?”

99 of purple prose
99 gripes, “What are those?”
To worry over metaphors
To scratch out adverbs by the score

This is what I waited for?
Take this out? Oh, that means war!
Does the editor think she’s so sly?
As 99 reddened lines go by.

Keyboard solo, with a feeling of acceptance flowing through

99 times to get high
On creative juices ever flowing
I can write as good as King
I can make this better yet!
The editor’s identified
Clarified and classified
Scrambling to make it fly
As 99 reddened lines go by!

Fast keyboard solo--clackaclacka
99 dreams I have had
And every one with reddened lines
It’s all over, the books sitting pretty
And take time to pet my kitty
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove my prose is clear
And here is a red-lined page
I think of you
And let it go.

My Novel's Journey: The Ending Song

Why is it that the ending to this book is so hard to write? It's not that I don't want to, but so much is getting in the way! I was thinking about it in the shower, and came up with this song.

ENDING (To the Tune of "Tomorrow" from Annie.)

I'm thinking about the ending
'cause you know I'm almost to the ending
And it's such fun
All the plot twists and bendings
I'm resolving now to reach the ending
What a great run!
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 10K away

I'm working on the ending
Through the long path that I've been wending
There's the sun!
I'm dreaming about the ending
Will it be funny or heart-rending
Or both in one?
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 5 K away

I'm almost to the ending
The characters their good-byes now are sending
To everyone
And when I've reached the ending
A victory I'll feel here with the ending
Oh, yes, I've won!
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 1 K away

I've written those words, "THE END"ing
Can't believe I've come now to the ending!
At last it's done.
Except for critiques
And editing
And rounds of submissions
And rejecting
And new books to come!
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're only 80K away!

(big finish)
The ending, the ending
I love you, the ending
You're always a book away!
