Fairy May--The Tooth Fairy Goes to School

Today, I'm hosting the talented and lovely Jo Linsdell as she tours her children's book, Fairy May.
Fairy May dreams of one day becoming a tooth fairy but she struggles at school and always seems to get things wrong. With hard work and determination she prepares for her test. Will she realize her dream and become a tooth fairy?

5 Stars:  "Fairy May is a story that will encourage little kids to not only to keep their teeth clean but also to try their best and work hard in school! A rhyming story filled with cute pictures, it would make a perfect addition to your child's book collection. I read it to my 1 1/2 yr old and he laughs and points to every picture!"

5 Stars:  "Fairy May is a story that will draw in younger children with it's colorful, playful illustrations and clever writing. Younger children will favor it as a bedtime read, while older children learning to read can choose it to practice their craft. Well produced with high quality!"

Jo Linsdell is a best-selling author and illustrator, award winning blogger and freelance writer. I've known her for years, and it's been inspiring to see how far she's come, and all her wonderful successes.  They are well deserved--she has a terrific heart, and it shows in her writing.  In fact, this book came about because when her neice saw her lastst book, Out and About at the Zoo, she asked her to write one just for her--and to have fairies in it! Originally from the UK, she now lives in Rome, Italy with her husband and their two young sons.  If you like reading about adorable kids, btw, friend her.  Friend her also if you are interested in some great writing and marketing opportunities.

Confession Saves--in More Ways than One!

I came across this scene while cleaning my desk.  Someday, I will have a story for it, but in the meantime, I thought it was appropriate fun for Lent.  Vern is my dragon detective, and Stan Rakness is a secret agent he sometimes works with.  Their first adventure together is Live and Let Fly.  In this adventure, Vern and Rakness have been caught by the villain, who is about to kill Stan.

Rakness: Whoa!  Wait!  I’m not going to die like this!  (turns to Vern)  Vern, hear my Confession!
Vern:  What?  I’m not a priest.
Rakness:  Well, someone’s got to hear it and you’re a better candidate than Villain, here.  I have a lot of sins weighing on me.
Vern:  Why didn’t you go before we left?
Rakness:  I got busy!  Really?  We’re having this conversation now?
Vern:  Grace told you to go before we left!
Villain clears his throat.
Rakness:  Look, I didn’t expect Villain to be so good at this.  It doesn’t matter.  I’m not spending half of eternity in Purgatory.
Vern:  Eternity is infinite.  How do you measure half of infinity?
Rakness:  Bless me, Vern, for I have sinned---
Vern:  I can’t!
Villain:  Gentleman…
Vern:  Who are you calling “man”?
Rakness:  Keep out of this!  It’s been—
Vern:  Hang on.  Villain has a point.  I can’t absolve you.
Rakness: Well, unless Villain has a priest in his employ, you have to.  It’s like…emergency baptism or something!
Vern:  You’re not a dying child, and I’m not a man.
Rakness: The priest stands in the place of Christ—
Vern:  I can’t stand in for Christ.  I’m not even the same species!
Rakness:  I think God’s a little bigger than that, don’t you?  (turns to Villain)  Come on, back me up here…

At this point, the cavalry comes in.

Later, Rakness says:  I can’t believe that worked!
Vern:  Miracles never cease.  Now, go to Confession!

Catholics should go to Confession a minimum of twice a year.  If you're Catholic, take Vern's advice and go to Confession this Lent.  It's good for your soul!

Great Weight Write-Off Weekly Winner--Rebecca Frech

It was a crazy couple of weeks for me, with Rob home, and so we missed last week's Great Weight Write-Off winner.  However, Kristyn Phipps won again this week and said we could run last week's winner instead.  Ladies and Gentlemen:  Rebecca Frech!

I'm a cradle Catholic who reverted to the faith in 2000. (Thank God!) I'm a wife, mom of seven, homeschooler, and writer. I write at my own blog Shoved to Them (http://shovedtothem.blogspot.com), Ignitum Today, and The American Catholic. I've also written a book for new homeschoolers which should be out later this year (June...I hope...) tentatively named Teaching in Your Tiara: The Homeschooling Book for The Rest of Us.
If you homeschool, check out her blog, and leave her a comment saying you're interested in her book--or contact her so she can get your w-mail addy and let you know when it's ready.

Rebecca lost SIX pounds last week and half a pound this week.  Congrats!

James Doohan

Yesterday would have been James Doohan (aka Scotty on Star Trek: The Original Series).  I met him at a convention when I was in college.  He must have been 67-68 then.  We stood in line for ages to get his autograph.  He asked my name and spelled it correctly on the first try--the first person I'd met who was able to do so with complete confidence.  (He was well known for being able to pick up accents; I think it must have been part of that gift.)  Then I asked him for a hug--and he gave me a kiss on the cheek, too.  I'd always enjoyed his character, but after that, he was a special favorite for me.  Lots of people on FB have commented on his sweetness and charm.

Not from the convention, but about the same time, I'd say.

Happy Birthday, James!  You're no longer with us in person, but we still treasure your spirit.
